If you drive down Kichha Road, you’ll eventually see our yard in Village Haldua. Laxmi Stone Industries isn’t a place for people who like to stay clean. There is stone dust everywhere and the sound of the crushers is quite loud. We spend our days taking big rocks and turning them into smaller ones or cutting slabs for construction. Most of our work goes into the new houses being built around the district. It’s a tough business. The machines are heavy and they need constant oiling and maintenance. We have a small crew of workers who live nearby in the village. They are hard workers who don't mind the heat or the noise. We don't have any polished office space. Usually, we just sit on plastic chairs under a tin roof to talk to customers. Sometimes we get orders for special sizes and it takes us a few extra days to get it right. We don't make any big promises we can't keep. The weather affects us a lot. When it rains too much, the yard gets muddy and it’s hard to move the trucks. We just wait for the sun to come out and dry things up so we can get back to loading the trailers. It’s a simple operation without any corporate layers. We just focus on the stones and the orders we have for the week.
