About Sitapur Handloom Durrie Association – Textile in Sitapur
We’ve been around in Khairabad for a good while now. The office is over at Mohd Irfankanayatpur's place, which is where everything gets sorted out. It’s not a fancy setup, just a lot of people working with handlooms like they always have in this part of Sitapur. You walk in and you see piles of durries stacked up against the walls. Some are bright, some are just plain, but they’re all heavy and solid. Most of us here grew up seeing these looms moving back and forth all day. It gets dusty and the noise is something you just get used to after a week or two. We spend a lot of time talking to the weavers about their threads and making sure the patterns aren't looking wonky. Sometimes the weather makes the yarn act up, especially when it’s humid, but we just deal with it. It’s mostly about getting the orders out to whoever needs them. We don't really do much advertising or anything like that. People know where we are in Khairabad if they need to find us. It’s a busy spot and there is always tea going around while we look over the latest batch. It’s just how things work here. We keep track of everything in big ledgers and try to keep the space organized, though with all that fabric, it’s a bit of a struggle most days. Anyway, that is what we do. We don't have a website or fancy flyers, just the work we do here in the village.
