Vijay Genral Store

Vijay Genral Store is located right in the Sheoganj Sabji Mandi. Being in the vegetable market means our day starts much earlier than most people. When the trucks start arriving with the fresh produce, we are already opening up our doors. It’s a noisy, wet, and very busy place to be. We sell the things that people need alongside their vegetables—spices, oils, cleaning supplies, and some basic snacks. The floor in here is concrete and usually has some dirt on it from the boots of people coming in from the mandi. Sheoganj is a tight-knit place, so we know the vegetable sellers and the regular buyers by name. We don't have any fancy shelving units, just wooden racks we built ourselves. The air always smells a bit like onions and earth because of the market outside. We don't use any fancy software for our sales. We just know the prices and keep them in our heads or on a small chalkboard. It’s a lot of work staying on your feet all day, but that’s just how it is in the Sabji Mandi. There’s no air conditioning, just a big exhaust fan that tries its best. We are just a local store making sure the people of Sheoganj can get their groceries in one trip while they shop for their greens.
