R K Watch Repairs is situated on New Bus Stand Road, literally right under the Aakash Hotel on Palace Road. Being under a hotel and so close to the bus stand means there is a lot of foot traffic. We get people who are just passing through town and realized their watch stopped, so they hop off the bus and come to us. The shop isn't much to look at from the outside. It’s a small space, but it serves its purpose. We have watches hanging on the walls and pieces of movements scattered on the worktable. The sound of the buses starting up is basically our background music all day long. It can be a bit noisy, but you get used to it. We handle all sorts of repairs, from simple strap changes to fixing the internal balance wheels. Palace Road is always active, so there is never a quiet moment. We’ve been sitting at this bench for a long time, watching the town change while we work on these tiny machines. A lot of our customers are locals who have been coming to us for years. They know we don't have a fancy setup, but we know how to handle these movements. We just take the work as it comes and try to get things back to people before their bus leaves. Sometimes we have to work by candlelight when the power flickers, but we manage just fine. It keeps the eyes sharp and the mind focused on the gears.
