Nit Hand Made Leather Mojri

If you look for us, you’ll find us right by Mahaveer Glass and Tea Centre in Sadar Bazaar. It’s a busy spot, always crowded with people getting tea or fixing glass. We handle the leather part of things. Making mojris is something we learned from our elders. It smells like raw leather and glue around here most of the time. We sit on the floor and stitch the soles to the uppers. It’s tough on the fingers, especially when the leather is thick. We don’t use those big industrial sewing machines. Everything is done with small hand tools and a lot of patience. Sometimes the bazaar gets so loud we can’t hear ourselves talk, but we just keep stitching. It’s a small shop, really just a workspace with some finished pairs sitting on the shelves. People stop by for tea next door and then peek in to see what we are making. We don't have a catalog. You just see what’s on the shelf or tell us what you need. The leather comes from the local market, and we try to pick the best pieces we can find. It’s not a glamorous job, but people always need good shoes. We just keep our heads down and work on the next pair until the sun goes down and we pack up for the night.
