Nab Blind School is located up in Mount Abu on Bhilwara Road. Being up in the hills means the weather is a lot cooler than the rest of Rajasthan. Sometimes it even gets quite cold, and the mist rolls in over the school buildings. This is a specific kind of place because we work with blind students. Because of that, the school is a bit quieter than most. You don’t see kids running around wildly, but you hear a lot of talking and the tapping of canes on the stone paths. We have a lot of Braille books, and they take up a huge amount of space on the shelves because they are so thick. The building is an older style, typical for Mount Abu, with some nice stone work. We have a small garden area that the students enjoy. They like the smell of the flowers and the feel of the different plants. Our staff has been here for years and they know how to handle the specific needs of the children. It takes a lot of time to teach things that other schools might do quickly. We don't have any fancy gadgets, just the basic tools for learning. Life here moves at its own pace. It’s a peaceful spot away from the main tourist areas of the hill station. We just go about our work every day, making sure the students have a place where they feel comfortable and can learn.
