Maa Vaishnavi Udyog

Our spot in Sadar Bazar stays pretty hectic from the moment we open the shutters. Maa Vaishnavi Udyog is right in the middle of all that noise and the crowd moving through the narrow lanes every single day. It is a small setup where we spend most of our time managing the stock and talking to the people who walk in looking for things. Usually, we are busy loading or unloading bags and keeping track of what’s coming from the bigger suppliers across the city. The air always smells like dust and spice from the neighboring shops that have been there for decades. We don't have much space in the shop, so we have to be really careful about where everything is stacked on the shelves. If someone needs something specific, we usually have to move five other things just to find it. It's a bit of a mess sometimes but we know where every single item is kept. The ceiling fan just moves the warm air around but you get used to the heat after a few years of working here. We drink a lot of water and watch the rickshaws try to squeeze past each other outside in the lane. People here know us by name and we know which neighbors are going to come by for a chat in the late evening. It is not a very quiet life but the market has its own rhythm and we just go along with it.
