Kalyan Provision Store

In Sheoganj, you’ll find the Kalyan Provision Store. It’s a standard grocery setup. Sacks of flour and bins of pulses are lined up right near the entrance. The shop isn't very large. We have to use every bit of shelf space for soaps, oils, and snacks. We start the day early. Usually, we check what ran out yesterday and make a list for the distributors. It’s a lot of lifting. Moving boxes around takes up most of my morning. The floor is old stone. It stays cool even in the middle of summer which is nice. People from the nearby houses come in throughout the day for their daily needs. We don't use any fancy computer systems for the accounts; it's mostly just a ledger and a pen. It gets crowded in the evenings when everyone is getting stuff for dinner. Sometimes we have to tell people to wait their turn because there's only one or two of us working. The neighborhood is quiet for the most part, except for the occasional festive procession. We’ve seen kids grow up and start coming in to buy things for their own homes now. It’s a steady life. We don’t ask for much more. The smell of raw spices and tea leaves is always hanging in the air. It’s an honest way to earn a living, just providing what the locals need to get through their week. We try to keep the prices fair for everyone.
