Bikaner Sweets Home

Bikaner Sweets Home is right in the middle of the chaos in Sadar Bazar. If you know this area, you know how tight the streets get. Our shop isn’t very large, but we pack a lot into it. We’ve got the standard metal trays and those old-fashioned glass jars. It’s a lot of work keeping up with the demand in a place like this. We start before the sun is even up, getting the milk boiled down. There’s always someone sweeping the front or rearranging the boxes. We don't use any fancy machinery; it’s mostly just hands and big spoons. The air is always thick with the smell of ghee. It’s a noisy life, with the market traffic right at our doorstep. We have people coming in all day, some wanting a single piece of something and others buying boxes for a wedding or a party. We don't do much in the way of decoration. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we’re usually too busy to get around to it. It’s an honest way to make a living, even if the hours are long and the work is tiring. We just focus on what we’re doing and try to keep the shelves from looking empty. It’s just us and the sweets, day after day, in the heart of the bazar. We don’t think about much else besides the daily tasks.
