Rd Cashew

Rd Cashew is a local business based in Uttur, which is a small village in the Ajara Taluka. This is a very different setting compared to the big city industrial zones. We are surrounded by greenery and the pace of life here is a lot slower, though the work itself can be quite tiring. We deal with cashews, which are a big part of the economy in this region. Our facility is a plain building where we handle the drying, peeling, and sorting. Most of the people who work here are from the village or nearby farms. We don't have any high-tech automation; a lot of the work is still done by hand because that is just how it has always been done in Ajara. During the harvest season, things get very hectic and we have piles of raw nuts everywhere. The rest of the year is more about processing and making sure everything is stored correctly. We don’t have a marketing department or a sales office. We mostly sell to traders who come through the taluka or local shops that know the quality of the Uttur crop. It’s a family-run sort of environment where everyone knows each other’s business. Sometimes the power cuts out for half the day, so we just sit outside and talk until it comes back. It is a honest way to make a living, working with the land and the seasons here in the village.
