New Shiv Kali Furniture

If you walk through the Shiv Mandir Main Market, you will find New Shiv Kali Furniture. It is hard to miss because there is usually a bit of sawdust blowing out onto the street and the sound of hammers hitting nails. We spend most of our time out back or in the shop area making beds, chairs, and cupboards. The smell of cut wood is everywhere, which I actually quite like. We get a lot of tea from the stall across the street. The wood shavings get into everything, even my pockets. We don’t have a fancy showroom with bright lights. Most of our furniture is just stacked up where we have room. Customers come in and run their hands over the wood to see if it is smooth enough. We talk to them about what they need for their homes and then we get to work. It is dusty, physical labor, and my back usually aches by the end of the day. We have been in the main market for a good while now, right near the temple. People stop by just to say hello or to ask for a small repair on a broken stool. We don’t have a website or a big advertising budget. Word of mouth is how most people find us. Sometimes we run out of a certain type of wood and have to wait for the next delivery. We just try to do a solid job and keep the shop open.
