About Kamala Flour Mill – Food & Beverages in Siliguri
If you are around Nayabazar in the Darjeeling district, you will probably hear the grinding stones of Kamala Flour Mill. We have been here for years, turning grain into flour for the local households and bakeries. It’s a dusty job, and by the end of the day, everything from our hair to our boots is white with flour. The mill is in an old building that has seen better days, but the machinery inside still works well. We don't have a corporate office or a reception desk. People just walk right into the work area with their bags of grain. Darjeeling is a beautiful place, but the hills make transporting heavy loads a bit of a challenge. We mostly focus on wheat and corn, but it depends on what the customers bring in. The sound of the mill is constant from morning until evening. We take breaks to sit outside and look at the hills when the machines are being cleaned. It’s a simple life, and we are quite content with it. We don't use any fancy packaging or advertising. Most of our customers have been coming to us for decades, and now their children come too. It’s about being a part of the Nayabazar community. Sometimes the power goes out, and everything stops, but we just wait it out and start again when the lights come back. It’s just what we do here at the mill, keeping the bins full for everyone. We try to finish the last bag before walking home.
