Ghosh Earth Moving Supply is right on Burdwan Road, directly across from the Vishal Mega Mart. Being in the Darjeeling district means we sometimes have to deal with the weather, but we stay open regardless. We deal with heavy stuff here, parts and supplies for big machines that move dirt and rocks. It is a bit of a messy business, and our hands are usually dirty by the time lunch rolls around. The location on Burdwan Road is actually pretty convenient because everyone knows where the Vishal Mega Mart is. We have a lot of heavy metal items sitting around the shop floor. It’s not the kind of place where you want to wear your nice clothes. Most of the people who come in are working on construction sites or road repairs nearby. We talk shop and figure out what parts they are looking for. It is a very practical way to spend the day. Sometimes the traffic on Burdwan Road gets backed up, and we just watch the cars go by while we organize the inventory. Darjeeling is a beautiful place, but down here on the road, it is all about the work. We’ve been at this spot for a while now and most of the local drivers know our faces. We just keep things simple and try to have what people are looking for when they stop their trucks outside and come in for help.
