You can find us over in Karimganj district, specifically in the P/O Medley area near Thehar Kandi. Basantipur Tea Company has been operating out of this corner of the state for quite some time now. It’s a bit of a trek to get out here, but it’s a good spot for what we do. The air always smells a bit like damp earth and tea leaves. We have a warehouse where we keep the stock. It’s a large, plain building that gets pretty hot in the summer months. We don't have any air conditioning or fancy stuff, just some big fans that move the air around. Most of our day is spent checking the bags and talking to the drivers who take the tea out to other places. It’s a lot of manual labor, shifting heavy sacks and making sure the labels are right. We aren’t trying to be a huge corporate entity. We’re just local people doing a job we’ve known for years. Sometimes the rain makes the roads near Thehar Kandi a bit difficult, which slows everything down. We just wait it out and get back to work when we can. There isn't any marketing team here. It’s just us, the tea, and the paperwork. We’ve become a part of the landscape around Medley, and that’s fine by us. We just want to get through the day's work and do it right.
