This is a very busy part of Rajasthan because of the temple nearby. There are always people walking past and the streets are narrow and dusty. We set up here because we wanted to be where the action is. The building isn't huge, but it sits right in the middle of the ward. Most of our day is spent dealing with the crowds and making sure our guests can actually get to the front door through the traffic. It gets very loud during festival times, which is something you just have to accept living in Sikar. We don't use any fancy management systems; it's mostly notebooks and memory. The staff is mostly local guys from the village who know the shortcuts. We keep things basic. There is a lot of cleaning to do because of the sand blowing in from the road, but we stay on top of it. It’s a practical business for a practical place. We don't try to pretend we are a five-star hotel from the big city. We are just a local resort near the temple, doing our best with what we have in Khatoo. Every day is a bit different depending on who is visiting the shrine.
