Our shop, Sushil Furnitures, is tucked away near the Rani Sati Mandir, right by the local police choki. It’s a pretty easy place to find because of those landmarks. Most of the time, you’ll hear us before you see us. There’s usually the sound of a saw cutting through wood or someone hammering away at a frame. The air inside is always a bit thick with the smell of varnish and fresh timber. We don't have a big fancy display room. Instead, we have pieces of furniture in various stages of being finished cluttering up the space. One corner might have a nearly finished wardrobe, while another has a pile of table legs waiting to be sanded. Working near the temple means we hear the bells and the people passing by all day. It’s a nice atmosphere. The police choki is right there too, so it’s a safe little corner of the world. We take our time with the wood because if you rush it, the joints don't fit right. It’s not about being the biggest shop; it’s just about making chairs and beds that don't fall apart after a month. We’re usually covered in a bit of dust by the time we close up for the night. It’s hard on the hands, but seeing a finished piece of furniture makes the long hours worth it. We just stick to the basics and keep our tools sharp.
