M F T General Store. We are located in Chhita Ka Mohala, right near the Pathan Hospital in Fatehpur. Sikar is a dry place, so we spend a lot of time cleaning the shelves from the sand that blows in. The store is basically a big room filled with everything from soap to flour. We keep the shutters open from early morning until quite late. People from the hospital often stop by for snacks or basic things they forgot. It gets very busy in the evenings when the locals are walking home. I sit on a stool near the counter most of the day. There is a small television in the corner but I rarely get to watch it. The kids from the neighborhood come in for candy and they make a lot of noise. We know almost everyone who walks through the door by their first name. It is not a supermarket with bright lights. We have a few tube lights and a lot of shadows. My son helps me move the heavy sacks of grain. We write down the accounts in a thick red book. The street outside is usually full of cows and motorbikes. It can be a bit chaotic but it is our daily life. We don't have any big sales or advertisements. People just know we have what they need. It is a simple shop in a busy part of Fatehpur district.
