If you walk down Sikar Station Road, you’ll hear us before you see us. There is always the sound of metal hitting metal or an engine revving up. At J D Maruti Workshop, our hands are almost always black with oil and grease. It’s a busy street, so cars are constantly pulling in with one problem or another. We have a couple of lifts and a lot of toolboxes that have seen better days. The floor is stained with old fluids, no matter how much we try to scrub it. We don't have a fancy waiting room with a TV. People usually just stand around and watch us work or go get a tea nearby while they wait for their vehicles. It gets very hot under the tin roof in the summer, so we use a few big fans to keep the air moving. We’ve been working on these cars for years and know most of the common issues by heart. Sometimes we have to wait a few days for a specific part to come in from the city, which is frustrating for everyone. But we just do what we can with what we have. It’s an honest day's work. The trains passing by the station add to the noise, but you stop noticing it after a while. We close up when the last car is out or when it gets too dark to see clearly. That is just how the workshop goes.
