Getwell Hospital And Research Center is located right across from S.K. School, near where Dr. B.L. Ranwa has his practice. Being near the school means we hear the kids playing and the bell ringing all through the day. It’s a landmark for most people in the neighborhood. We have been here for a good while, and the "Research Center" part of our name makes it sound very formal, but really, we are just a group of people working in a building full of medical supplies and patient files. The hallway is a bit narrow, and we have to be careful when moving equipment around. I usually spend my morning going through the intake logs. We have a few benches outside where people sit when the weather is nice. The interior isn't anything you'd see in a magazine; it's just plain walls and tiles that are easy to scrub down. Our staff includes some people who have been here since the doors first opened. We drink a lot of tea and talk about the local traffic or the school events happening across the street. It’s a very grounded kind of place. We don't have any big slogans or glossy brochures. Most people find us because they live in the area or they were told to come here by a neighbor. We just focus on the daily tasks and making sure the patient rooms are ready for whoever comes in next.
