Mamta Masala

Mamta Masala is over in Ward No- 7 in Tambewadi Village. If you are driving on the Belapur Road in the Shrirampur Taluka of Ahmednagar, you might pass near us. It is a quiet village area mostly. We spend our time grinding spices. The air inside the shop usually smells very strong of chillies or turmeric, so much that visitors sometimes sneeze right when they walk in. We don't have a big factory. It’s more of a local operation where we take the dried spices and turn them into powders. My family helps out and we have a few neighbors who come in to help with the packing. We use simple grinders that have been with us for years. They make a lot of noise but they work well. We don't use any chemicals or anything like that. Just the spice and the machine. Sometimes the rain makes it hard to dry things outside so we have to adjust our schedule. Life in the village is slower than the city but we stay busy enough. People from around Ahmednagar district know us by word of mouth. We don't bother with advertisements or polished brochures. We just show up, start the machines, and fill the bags. It is honest work that puts food on the table. The red dust from the chillies gets on everything but we don't mind much. It’s just part of our life here.
