About Mahadik Mushroom Farm – Food & Beverages in Shrigonda
Out here at Gate No. 446 in Ruikhel, things are usually pretty quiet until the harvest starts. We have been running Mahadik Mushroom Farm for a while now and it keeps us on our toes. The mushrooms don’t really care if it’s a holiday or a Sunday, they just keep growing in the dark. We spend a lot of time checking the temperature and making sure the humidity is just right in the sheds. It gets a bit damp and smells like earth and compost most of the time. We aren’t a big factory or anything, just a local farm trying to get fresh produce out to the markets in the Tal area. Sometimes the crop is great and other times we struggle with the weather getting too hot. It’s a lot of manual work, carrying bags and cleaning the trays. We get up early before the sun is even fully out to start the picking. My clothes usually have some dirt on them and the floors are always wet. We don't have a fancy office, just the farm and the post area where we pack things up. It’s a simple life out here in Mandavgan but it is honest work. People come by to pick up crates and we talk for a bit before they head off. It is mostly just about keeping the environment right so the mushrooms stay healthy and white and ready to be sold to the local shops.
