Shifa Clinic

We opened up Shifa Clinic right here on Patti Road in Chanderi a while back. It’s a quiet enough spot most days, though the dust from the road gets in sometimes if we leave the door open too long in the afternoon. Ashoknagar is where most of us grew up, so we know many of the people walking past our window every single morning. We don't have fancy leather chairs or a big waiting room with a television. Usually, it’s just a few plastic stools and some old magazines that nobody really reads anymore. We spend a lot of time just talking to whoever comes in through the door. Some days it is quite busy, and other times we just sit and watch the traffic go by outside. There’s a tea stall not far from us, so someone usually goes over to grab a few cups for the staff in the afternoon. People know where to find us if they need something. We try to keep the place as clean as we can, but it’s a working clinic, so there’s always something that needs fixing or a cupboard door that sticks when you try to open it. It’s just how things are around here. We aren't trying to be the biggest or most modern place in the district, we just stay here and do what we can for the folks who live on this side of town. It gets very hot in the summer, and the old ceiling fan makes a bit of a clicking sound.
