Golden Leaf Plates

Golden Leaf Plates is right across from Gandhi Park in the Motia Khan area of Pahar Ganj. It is a very busy spot with people always moving around, especially being so close to the park. You can usually tell where we are because of the stacks of plates. We make these leaf plates that people use for food, so there is always that natural smell of dried leaves around the place. It’s not a big corporate operation; it’s just us working in this space, trying to keep up with the orders that come in. The machines we use for pressing the plates make a rhythmic thumping sound that you get used to after a while. The floor is usually covered in little bits of leaf trim that we have to clear out every evening. Pahar Ganj is a loud place, and we are right in the middle of it. We have people dropping in from the park or just passing by on the street. Sometimes the weather makes it hard to dry things properly, so we have to adjust how we work. It’s a simple business, really. We just take the raw materials and turn them into something useful for the local vendors and folks who want something traditional. It’s dusty and loud sometimes, but it’s our corner of the city and we’ve been here long enough that the neighbors all know what we do.
