We are located in Uppalli, which is in the Chikmagalur district. If you know where the Hero Honda showroom is, we are right near there. Being in Chikmagalur, coffee is basically everything to us. Our space isn't very large, but it’s always full of the smell of beans. We spend most of the day sorting through batches and talking to the people who bring the coffee down from the hills. C N Coffee Trading Co is really just a few of us working out of a basic warehouse-style building. We have bags of coffee stacked up to the ceiling sometimes. It’s heavy work, and our backs often ache by the end of the shift. We have a small area where we roast samples to check the quality. It’s a very manual process, using a small machine that’s been with us for a long time. The traffic near the Hero Honda showroom can get a bit loud, but once you’re inside, you don't notice it as much. We don't have a website or a big marketing team. Most of our trading happens through word of mouth and people just stopping by the Uppalli location. We use a simple chalkboard to keep track of the daily prices. It’s a practical way to run a business. We aren't looking to expand into some massive corporation. We just like the rhythm of the coffee season and the people we meet every day in Uppalli.
