In Shimoga, things move at their own pace. Akshaya Pharma is tucked away here, and we’ve been running things for a bit now. It’s not a complicated operation. We have the usual meds and some general health products on the side shelves. The floor is made of old tile that’s seen better days, but it’s easy to clean. During the monsoon, the sound of the rain on the roof is so loud we can barely hear the customers. We spend a lot of time on the phone with suppliers, trying to make sure we don't run out of the common stuff people ask for. It’s mostly just us and the stock. We don't have any fancy displays or bright neon signs. Just a simple board outside with the name on it. Shimoga is a good town, and being here feels right. We know the local doctors and what they usually prescribe, so we try to stay ahead of that. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to use the handheld torches to find things in the back. It’s just part of the job. We don't have a lot of staff, so we all do a bit of everything, from cleaning to doing the accounts. It’s a straightforward life here at the pharmacy. We just keep the door open and wait for whoever needs help next. There is always something to do even when the street outside is quiet.
