Trainee Engineer

Up here in Banikhet, things move a little slower. Trainee Engineer is right near the primary school bus stand in Chamba. It’s a beautiful spot, especially when the weather is clear, but it gets pretty cold in the winter months. We spend a lot of time by the heater when it snows. The office is small, just a few rooms near where the buses stop. You can hear the kids shouting and the buses pulling in and out all day. It’s a good landmark, though, because everyone knows where the bus stand is. We’ve got some old wooden shelves packed with manuals and parts that we’ve collected over the years. It’s not very organized, to be honest. We know where everything is, even if it looks like a mess to someone else. Working in Himachal means we deal with power cuts every now and then, so we’ve learned to be patient. Sometimes we just sit and look out at the hills while we wait for the lights to come back on. We don't have many visitors from outside the district, mostly just locals who know us. It’s a simple life and a simple business. We like the mountain air and the fact that we don't have to deal with city traffic. It’s just us, the school bus noise, and the work we do every day. It is a quiet existence but we get things finished.
