We are based right across from the All India Radio gate in Shimla, specifically at Bajwa Lodge in Chaura Madain. It gets quite cold here in the winters, and sometimes the steep hills make moving heavy equipment a real chore for the crew. We spend most of our mornings looking over plans for roads and bridges that need fixing or building in this rugged part of Himachal. The office isn't anything fancy, just a place where we keep our files and meet up for a quick chat before heading out to the various sites. Most of us have been working in this area for a while, so we know the local terrain and the rocky soil pretty well. Construction is hard work, especially when the monsoon hits or the weather doesn't cooperate, but we just get on with it. You can usually find someone here during the day, unless we are all out on a project somewhere else in the district. The traffic near the gate can be a bit much during peak hours, so we try to head out early to beat the rush. We have a few desks, some old maps on the walls, and a kettle that is almost always boiling. It’s a busy place but quiet enough to get the paperwork done when needed. We don't really do big formal meetings, mostly just quick talks over tea to figure out what needs to happen next on the road. It’s just how things go.
