Kinnaur Heritage Foundation

You can find our office on the ground floor of the Harsh Complex in Reckong Peo. We are right near the Central Bank of India, which makes us pretty easy to locate if you’re in town. Being in Kinnaur, we are surrounded by a lot of history and old traditions. We started this foundation because we didn't want to see all those old ways get forgotten. It’s not a big fancy operation. We mostly just sit in our office and talk to people who come by with stories or old items. Sometimes we go out to the smaller villages to see how things are holding up. The winters here are no joke, and sometimes everything just stops for a few weeks when the snow is heavy. We use that time to plan for the spring. We don't have a lot of money for advertising, so we just rely on people knowing who we are. It’s a slow process, but we aren't in any rush. The heritage of this place has been around for hundreds of years, so we figure we should take our time with it too. It’s mostly just a few of us trying to keep things organized. We aren't experts with degrees, just locals who care about where we come from. That’s enough for us to keep the doors open and the lights on every day.
