Up here in Shimla, the weather changes fast. One minute it is clear and the next the clouds roll in over the ridges. We started Himoday Solar Energy Private Limited because we saw how much sun these hills actually get despite the cold. Most days you will find us checking out roofs or hauling gear up steep paths. It is not easy work given the terrain but someone has to do it. Our office is right in Shimla so we are easy to find if you are walking around the main areas. We spend a lot of time talking to folks about how these panels actually handle the snow and the winter months. It is mostly just a few of us here trying to make things work. Sometimes the roads are blocked or the wind is too high to be up on a ladder. We just wait it out and get back to it when things calm down. People ask if solar works in the mountains and we tell them what we see every day. There is no fancy talk here. We just show up with the tools and the parts and get to work. It gets quiet in the evenings when the sun goes down behind the peaks. That is when we pack up the truck and head back home. It is a decent way to make a living in a place like this.
