Chandernahan Welfare Foundation

Chandernahan Welfare Foundation is based in Rohru. We are at C/O Parmila Devi Thakur’s place in Shakti Nagar. Rohru is a long way from the main city, so we have to be pretty self-reliant out here. The name comes from the lake nearby, which is a very special place for all of us. We started this welfare group because we wanted to help the people in the apple belt. Life here is centered around the seasons and the trees. When it’s harvest time, everyone is busy and the roads are full of trucks. We try to provide support where it’s needed most during the off-season. Our office in Shakti Nagar is pretty simple and humble. We have a few benches and we always have a pot of tea ready. Parmila Devi is usually around to manage the daily things. We don't have a fancy setup with many computers and young interns. It’s just us. We know the local struggles because we live them every single day. The roads can be very rough and the winters are long and dark. But we stay because this is where we belong. We don't have a grand plan to change the whole world. We just want to make sure the people in Rohru are okay. We help with small things that make a real difference. People know where to find us if they need anything.
