Adventure In Himalaya

We are based over at Yates Place in Chhota Shimla. It’s a steep walk up if you’re not used to the mountain air. The office for Adventure In Himalaya is just a couple of rooms in an old building. We have wooden floors that creak whenever someone walks across them. I usually arrive around nine and open the shutters. You can see the valley when the clouds aren't too low. It’s a nice view to have while you're filing papers. We have stacks of maps and gear piled in the corners. Sometimes the monkeys come onto the balcony and we have to shoo them away. Chhota Shimla is a bit quieter than the main town area. I prefer it that way. We spend a lot of time talking to guides and checking the weather reports. It's mostly phone calls and emails. I’ve lived in Shimla my whole life, so I know these roads well. The sign outside is a bit weathered from the snow last winter. We have a small stove in the corner for the cold months. My tea mug is never empty. We don't have a big corporate team. It’s just us and a few locals who help out. People find their way to Yates Place when they want to head into the hills. We just keep the place running and wait for the next trekking season to start. The front door sticks sometimes, so you have to give it a good push. That’s just part of being in an old house like this.
