Meghalaya Outdoors

Up here in the Khasi Hills, the weather changes so fast you can barely keep track of it. Meghalaya Outdoors is located right in the middle of all that green and mist. Most of our days are spent checking gear and making sure the tents and ropes are dry after the rain. It rains a lot here, as everyone knows, so we have to be careful about where we store things. The shop isn't very large, but it has enough room for us to sit and talk about the trails. We have been in these hills for a long time and the locals know where to find us. It’s not like a big city store with bright lights and fancy displays. We mostly have stuff hanging from hooks on the walls or piled up in the corner. When the fog rolls in, you can’t even see the road from our front door. We usually drink a lot of ginger tea to stay warm while we wait for people to stop by. Sometimes people get lost looking for us because the hills all look the same, but we are always around somewhere. It gets quiet in the evenings when the sun goes down behind the peaks. We just lock up the wooden door and head home, ready to do it all again the next morning when the birds start. It is a peaceful way to live and work, even if the dampness gets into your bones sometimes.
