Doordarshan Chennel

Up here at Laitpur Peak in Shillong, the air is a bit thinner and the view is something else. We are based out here near the main road, right by the post office. Working at the channel means we are always dealing with cameras, cables, and broadcast signals. It’s a bit of a trek to get up to the peak sometimes, especially when the weather turns bad, which happens a lot in this part of the country. We have a lot of equipment to look after to make sure the signal keeps going out. The office isn't very big, and it’s often cluttered with tapes and old monitors that we haven't quite decided to throw away yet. We spend a lot of time monitoring the feeds and making sure the local news and programs are ready to go. It’s not a glamorous job like people think TV is. Most of it is just sitting in front of screens or fixing a connection that went loose. Being in Shillong, we have a pretty quiet life outside of work. The staff here has been together for a while, so we all know how to handle the glitches when they pop up. We get our mail at the post office just down the road. It’s a practical setup and we just keep the station running day in and day out without much fuss. We've been here for years and the mountain weather is just part of our daily routine now. It is a steady place to work.
