Ice Factory

The Ice Factory is located in Jainpur Village, right in the Saraiya Block. It’s a very simple setup. We don’t have a website or a sales team. We just have the machines and the water tanks. We make large blocks of ice for the local market and the farmers. It's a wet and cold job. We spend most of the day in rubber boots. The noise of the compressors is something you eventually stop hearing. We start our work very early, usually around 3:30 in the morning, so the ice is ready when the trucks show up. Jainpur is a quiet place, but our factory is always humming. We don't have any office chairs or air-conditioned rooms. Just a small corner with a table for our registers. We use a lot of power, so we are always checking the meters. When the monsoon comes, the road to the factory gets pretty bad, but the local guys still manage to come by with their carts. We’ve been part of this village for a long time. Our family runs the whole thing. We don't use any fancy language to describe our work. We just freeze water and sell it. It’s practical work and it keeps us busy year-round, especially when the summer heat hits Saraiya hard. We just keep our heads down and work.
