Shree Traders

Our small shop, Shree Traders, is right at Gandhi Chowk. If you spend any time in this town, you’ve probably walked past us a dozen times. Gandhi Chowk is the center of everything here, so there is always noise and people shouting. We keep the doors open from morning until late evening. It’s not a very big space, so we have to stack our goods high up to the ceiling. Sometimes it feels like the walls are closing in, but we manage. We sell all sorts of things that people might need in their daily lives. Most of our customers are folks we’ve known since we were kids. We spend a lot of time just chatting with people who stop by to say hello. There isn't a manager or a boss in a suit here; it’s just us behind the counter. We use a simple ceiling fan to keep cool and a small radio for some background noise. Some days it’s so busy we don’t have time to eat lunch until late, and other days it’s quiet enough to read the newspaper cover to cover. We don't do any advertising because everyone knows where Gandhi Chowk is anyway. We just try to keep the shelves full and the prices fair so people keep coming back. It’s a basic life, but we like being part of the community here.
