Being out here on the Ujjain- Kota Road means we see a lot of trucks passing by all day and night. At No. 222 Gani Steel handles a lot of heavy metal. It is a dirty job and your hands are always stained with grease or rust by the end of the shift. We have got a big yard for the inventory. When the wind picks up the dust from the road blows right into the office space. This is not a massive corporation; we are just a bunch of guys who know our way around steel. The sun beats down pretty hard on the corrugated roof in the afternoons. We try to get the loading done in the morning when it is cooler. Sometimes the delivery trucks are late because of traffic near the city and we just sit around and talk. It is part of the daily routine. We do not have fancy uniforms or a polished showroom to show off. Most of our customers are local builders or contractors who just need stuff for their projects. We use a lot of old scales that still work just fine for weighing things. My desk is usually covered in delivery notes and empty tea cups. There is a dog that hangs around the gate that we feed sometimes. It is a straightforward business. We move the steel and we count it. We have been on this stretch of road for a long time and we know most of the other shop owners nearby.
