Gagan Flour Mills

Gagan Flour Mills operates out of Shree Sheela Traders at No. 105 M. G. Road. We are right near the Durga Mandir, so it’s a very busy part of the street. If you come by, you’ll hear the hum of the grinding machines before you even see the door. There is always a fine layer of flour dust on almost everything, which is just part of the job when you’re running a mill. M. G. Road is packed with shops, and being opposite the HDFC Bank means there are always people around. We spend our days lifting heavy sacks of grain and pouring them into the machines, then bagging up the fresh flour. It’s noisy work, and you have to raise your voice to be heard over the mill. We’ve been at this spot for quite some time, and we know most of the regular customers who bring their wheat in. The shop is narrow and deep, with the machinery at the back and the bags piled up at the front. Between customers, we spend time sweeping up the floor and checking the belts on the motors. It’s a lot of manual labor and it can be tiring on the back, but it’s a good, honest way to spend the day. When the power goes out, everything goes quiet, and we just wait for it to come back on so we can finish the work. It’s a simple, busy life here.
