We are based out of the Karyalaya Pariyojna Sanchalak in the Ganj area of Shahdol. Our group, Maikal Traditional Organic Farmers Producer Company Limited, was formed because we wanted to keep doing things the way they used to be done, without all the chemicals people use now. Shahdol is home for us, and the farmers here have been working this land for generations. It’s not always easy to stick to organic methods when everyone else is taking shortcuts to make a quick rupee. We spend a lot of time out in the fields and then come back to the office to handle the government side of things. The building isn't much to look at, but it gets the job done for our monthly meetings. Sometimes we have a lot of people crowded in there, all talking at once about seeds or the rain being late. We aren't some big corporate entity; we’re just people from the local villages trying to make a living together. The 484001 area is where we grew up. We deal with traditional crops and try to find buyers who actually care about how the food was grown. It’s slow work and the pay isn't always great, but we feel better about what we’re doing at the end of the day. If you're looking for us in Ganj, we’re usually there during the week, unless it’s harvest time and everyone is away in the fields.
