Gulab Devi Public School

In the small town of Majhigawan in Shahdol, you will find our school. It’s a public school that serves the local community here. The building itself is quite simple and fits right in with the rest of the neighborhood. We don’t have a massive campus, but there is enough room for the classes to meet and for the kids to have a bit of space to play. Morning assembly is usually when the whole place feels the most alive, with everyone lined up in the courtyard. Shahdol can be a quiet place, but the school is always full of life during the day. We have teachers who have been here for years and know most of the families by name. The classrooms are basic, with wooden desks and benches that have seen a lot of use. We don't have a fancy lobby or a bunch of administrators in suits. It’s more of a place where everyone chips in to keep things running. When the monsoon hits, we have to deal with the mud and the leaks like everyone else in Majhigawan. We just focus on the lessons and making sure the children have their books. Sometimes the parents come in to talk about their kids’ progress, and we just sit down in the office and have a normal conversation. It’s an honest, local school that doesn't try to be anything it isn't. We just do our part for the town.
