Kaaraiyan Small Millets Farmers Producer Company Limited

We are located at House No. 265 in Balbir Nagar Extension, which is over in Shahdara. This is a company made for and by farmers who grow small millets. Kaaraiyan Small Millets Farmers Producer Company Limited is quite a mouthful to say, so we usually just talk about the millets. It’s a very local thing. We work with a lot of people in East Delhi and the surrounding areas to get these grains processed and out to people who want them. Millets are tough little plants and they don't need much, which is why we like them. The office is basically just a room in a house where we keep the records and meet up. It’s not fancy at all. There are bags of grain sitting in the corners and the smell of earthy stuff everywhere. We aren't trying to be some big food conglomerate. We just want to make sure the farmers get a decent price and the millets don't go to waste. Sometimes the supply is steady and other times we struggle to get enough, depending on the rain. We handle all the coordination ourselves. It involves a lot of phone calls and sitting around drinking tea while we discuss the harvest. We don't have a website with pretty pictures. We just have the product and our word that we are doing our best. It’s a lot of hard work but the people involved are good and we keep going no matter what.
