We are based up in the Jampui Hills, specifically in Hmunpui near the Vangmun police station. Lalnuntluanga’s place is where we handle most of our paperwork and meetings. It is a quiet spot, but there is always a lot of work to do. Most of us here have spent our whole lives working with the soil in this region. We started Jumpui Hill Farmer Producer Company Limited because it felt right to work together rather than separately. It isn't a big fancy office or anything like that. Just a group of people from around here trying to manage what we grow better. The weather can be tricky in the hills sometimes. We spend a lot of time talking about crops and how the season is going. Everyone knows everyone in this part of Tripura. It’s a lot of manual labor, and we aren't trying to be something we're not. We just want to make sure the farming side of things stays steady for the families involved. Sometimes the roads are difficult, especially when the rains come, but we manage. You’ll usually find someone around the office area if you need to talk about seeds or tools. We don’t have a big marketing team. It’s just us, the farmers, sitting down and figuring out the next steps for the harvest. It feels good to have a collective name for what we do every day. There is always a pot of tea and plenty of talk about the land. We just take it as it comes.
