Being right near Pawar Bandhu Restaurant means people usually know where we are without us having to explain much. We are over here in Tehsil Barghat, tucked along the Main Road. The mill is usually a hive of activity, especially during the harvest season. Parboiling is a messy process sometimes, with all the steam and water, but it's what we do. The smell of the grain soaking is something you never really forget once you work here. It gets quite humid inside the shed, especially when the boilers are going full tilt. We have a small crew of guys who have been with us for a long time. We mostly deal with the local farmers who bring their carts and trucks right up to the gate. Sometimes the traffic on the Main Road makes it hard for them to turn in, but we manage. There's always a layer of fine dust on everything, no matter how much we sweep. We just keep the machinery oiled and the bags moving out the door. It’s a decent life here in Barghat. We aren't doing anything groundbreaking, just processing the rice as it comes. Usually, we close up when it gets dark and the restaurant next door starts getting busy for dinner. The sound of the machines is like a constant drum in your ears all day. We have to shout a bit to be heard over the noise.
