Shravan Medical Stores

Living and working in Korai means everyone knows everyone else’s business, and Shravan Medical Stores is right in the middle of it all on the Main Road. We started this shop because the town needed a steady place where you could actually find what the doctor wrote down. It’s a simple setup. We have the glass counters in the front and the tall wooden racks reaching all the way to the ceiling in the back. During the monsoon, the rain hits the roof so loud we can barely hear what the customers are asking for. I usually spend my mornings checking the expiry dates on the bottles and writing down what we need to order from the city. The traffic on the Main Road is mostly tractors and the occasional bus, so it’s not too noisy most days. People stop by not just for medicine but sometimes just to ask for directions or see if we’ve heard any news. We don't have a computer system that does everything; we still write things down in the big ledger books. It takes a bit more time, but it works for us. The lights flicker sometimes when the power goes out, but we keep a few torches handy. It’s just how things are here in Korai. We stay open until the street lights come on, then we lock up the shutters and head home.
