Our shop is located at 72 Markandan Koil Street in the Old Sempatti area. It is a very quiet and traditional street, mostly made up of old houses and a few small family shops like ours. We have been part of this village for a very long time, through several generations. My grandfather was the one who originally started the business on this same piece of land. We do not have any big signs or bright lights, we just keep the front doors open from early morning until the sun goes down. People usually drop by when they need something for their homes, often after they have finished their prayers at the temple down the road. We handle a variety of items depending on what the local community is asking for at the time. The air in Sempatti is quite nice compared to the cities, though the dust gets everywhere during the dry months. We spend a lot of our time sitting on the front porch talking to neighbors who are walking past. Business here does not happen very fast and we like it that way. We take our time to make sure people get what they need. Sometimes we have to wait for the supply trucks to come from the bigger towns, but nobody seems to mind the wait. We still use paper ledgers and an old metal box for the cash. It is a very peaceful life.
