I work out of Sri Sai Ram Towers in Prashant Colony. My place is Flat 405. It’s a decent building in Balkampet, and I’ve been here long enough that the watchman knows me well. My day usually starts with a lot of phone calls and then I settle into my drafting table. I handle various design projects for people in the local area. The office isn't anything special to look at, just a room with enough light and a good table. I like being in this part of Hyderabad because it feels more like a real neighborhood than the new glass-and-steel parts of town. I don't use much fancy software if I can help it, I still like sketching things out by hand first. My shelves are full of old files and some books on local building styles. It can get a bit hot in the afternoons, but the fan keeps things moving. I usually have a few different projects going at once, so things can look a little disorganized to an outsider. But I know where every piece of paper is. I don’t spend money on big signs or advertising. Most of the people who come to me are friends of friends. It’s just me doing my thing and making sure the measurements are right. Sometimes the traffic outside is loud, but you get used to it after a few months. I've been living in this city all my life and I think that helps with understanding how to build things here. It's just a regular job for me.
