Prithvi Wood Doors

Our place is at Plot No. 265 in the Public Sector Colony, right off the Mumbai Highway in New Bowen Pally. Being so close to the highway means there’s a constant stream of trucks and cars going by, which makes it easy for deliveries but can be a bit noisy. We work mostly with wood, so the smell of sawdust is always in the air around the shop. We make doors for all kinds of houses and buildings. It’s a hands-on job where we spend a lot of time measuring, cutting, and checking the wood for any flaws. Wood is a natural material, so every door has its own character and knots. We don’t use any of those fancy marketing terms; we just tell people how the wood will hold up and what it looks like. Our yard usually has stacks of timber waiting to be worked on. Sometimes the weather makes the wood swell or shrink, so we have to keep an eye on how we store it. We talk to a lot of locals who are building their own homes and need something sturdy for their entrance. It’s a busy spot and we’re usually covered in a bit of dust by the end of the shift. We like working with our hands and seeing a finished door ready to be hung. It’s a good, honest way to spend the day for us.
