The Lovedale Senior Secondary School

Down on Kothi Road in Satna, you’ll find our school. It’s a senior secondary setup, so we have the older students who are always a bit more serious about their books, or at least they try to be. The street outside can get quite loud with the traffic, but once you get inside the walls, it settles down a bit. We’ve been operating here for a good while now. The office is usually the busiest spot, with people coming in for paperwork or just to ask questions about the schedule. We have a bunch of classrooms that stay pretty full throughout the day. The furniture is the sturdy kind that’s seen a lot of use over the years. We try to keep the garden near the entrance looking okay, even when the Satna heat makes everything go a bit yellow. Our staff is mostly local folks who have lived in this part of Madhya Pradesh their whole lives. We don’t have a big corporate office or anything like that; it’s just us and the students. Lunchtime is the best part of the day when everyone opens their tiffins and the whole place smells like home cooking. We deal with the usual stuff like broken chalk and leaky taps, just like any other place. It’s a regular school day every day, and that’s how we like it. We close the gates once the last bus leaves and then it's just the sound of the wind on Kothi Road.
