If you come down to Sapna in Madhya Pradesh, you’ll find us at Shop A 89. The place is literally filled with lights. We have bulbs hanging from the ceiling and lamps sitting on every available inch of shelf space. It’s a bit of a maze sometimes. When you turn everything on, it gets really warm in here. We spend a lot of time testing wires and making sure the connections are solid. My hands are usually a bit dirty from handling the old fixtures. We don’t have a fancy showroom; it’s more like a workshop where people come to find what they need for their homes. Most of the customers are neighbors or people from just a few streets over. We have a small bench near the front where people sit and wait while we fix a socket or find a specific fuse. The rain sometimes leaks a bit near the back door, so we have to keep the boxes off the floor. It’s a crowded little shop, but we know exactly where everything is, even the tiny screws that get lost easily. We’ve been part of the market here for years. You get to know the other shopkeepers and the guys who deliver the supplies. It’s a bright place to work, even on the cloudy days when the street outside looks gray and damp.
