Down in Purani Basti, specifically in Maliyan Tola, you'll find us. We're right behind the Mahakal School in Ward 03 of Maihar. The Federation Of Community Development is what we call ourselves, but we're really just a group of neighbors. We've been living in this part of Maihar for a long time. We saw that things could be better if we worked together, so we started this. It’s not a professional setup with suits and ties. Most days we are just wearing our regular clothes and walking around the basti. We talk to the families nearby and try to figure out how to make the community a bit better for everyone. Sometimes it’s about the school, other times it’s about the roads or water. It’s basic stuff that matters to people living here. We don’t have a lot of funding, so we rely on each other a lot. The school kids are always running around outside, so it’s never quiet. We like it that way, though. It keeps us reminded of why we’re doing this. It’s slow work, and we don’t always see results right away. But we live here, so we aren’t going anywhere. We just keep plugging away at it, one small thing at a time. It’s just life in Maihar for us. We drink a lot of tea and spend hours just listening to what people need.
