Sri Sairam Mavu Mill

Sri Sairam Mavu Mill is out in Uthukuli Zamin Village, right at number 96 on Pudur Road. If you come by, you’ll probably hear the machines before you see the sign. We spend our days grinding grain into flour for the local families. The air inside the mill is always a bit white with dust, and it’s quite noisy when the motors are running. We’ve been running this mill for quite some time now, and it’s become a part of our daily rhythm. People from the village bring their bags of grain, and we process them while they wait or they come back later. It’s hard work, especially keeping the equipment clean and running smooth. The heat can get a bit much in the afternoons, but we just keep the doors open to catch whatever breeze comes down Pudur Road. We don't have any fancy office staff, it’s just us doing the grinding and the bagging. Sometimes the power goes out, which is common in the village, and everything comes to a halt, but we just wait it out. We like the simple nature of the work. There’s something satisfying about seeing a bag of grain turn into soft flour. We’ve known most of our customers since they were kids. It’s a small operation, but it’s an important one for the folks living around here in Uthukuli Zamin. We take it one day at a time and keep the machines humming along.
